Travis Kelce Throws A Towel At The Referee
Travis Kelce was ejected in the fourth quarter of the Sunday game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars when he threw a towel at the official. Kelce was furious after the refs didn’t throw a yellow flag and called pass interference on the Jags’ defensive back Prince Amukamara, although it’s evident that he pulled Kelce’s neck and prevented him from catching a ball for a touchdown.
The Chiefs’ tight end couldn’t hide his frustration and kept arguing with the officials before threw his towel toward one of them, which was quite enough for the referee to show him the way to the locker room. The fans entirely took Kelce’s side in this one because they saw the replay and noticed that Amukamara apparently hit Travis’ neck before the ball arrived. They even cheered his name while he left the field.
The head coach, Andy Reid, wasn’t happy with Kelce’s reaction, though, and told him a few harsh words on the sidelines. Let’s remind, in 2014, Kelce was fined with $11,000 for “unsportsmanlike conduct” for inappropriate hand gesture and simulation of a jerking motion at the Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller. Reid called him “immature” at the time, and this incident surely will not help Kelce in changing his coach’s mind.
Before losing his cool, Kelce recorded five catches for 58 yards which helped the Chiefs to win narrowly 19-14. One of the best tight ends in the league and a pro bowl player, Kelce developed a good connection with backup quarterback Nick Foles. With recent injury of the wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, Kelce should be even more included in the Chiefs attack in the coming weeks, unless coach Reid decides to punish him. However, with limited options in attack, Reid will probably list him as a starter.Link:
