The Champions League Group Stage draw was held earlier on Thursday and the schedule is set. The “Group of Death” in this year’s draw has to be Group C which features Barcelona, Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach and Celtic. Monchengladbach is coming in hot after a 6-1 win over Young Boys in the previous round and they will face a City team who won a 6-0 aggregate over Steau. Celtic will give Barcelona a tough game as well after they got in with a 5-4 aggregate win over Beer Sheva.
Leicester City got a favorable draw in Group G with Porto, Club Brugge and Kobenhvn. Who? Exactly. Leicester should be on their way to the Knockout Stage.
Arsenal is in a tough Group A with PSG, Ludogorets and Basel. They may be able to get the second spot which would enable them to m move on. Tat leaves Tottenham Hotspur from the Premier League. They are in Group E with CSKA Moscow, Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.
Of the four Premier League sides, City by far got the toughest draw, but they may be the best of the four teams so they should still advance. In fact there is an excellent chance all four will be in the Knockout Round. If at least three of them are not playing in the Round of 16 it should be considered a major disappointment.
The other four groups have some good matchups as well. How about Group D with Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid? That will be fun. Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid are both in Group F and Group H has Juventus, Sevilla and Dinamo Zagreb.
We cannot wait for these matches! It will be a lot of fun in the Group Stage as always. Pep Guardiola going back to Camp Nou with Manchester City is going to a game none of us will want to miss!
