In the second season of the College Football Playoffs, it looks to be working out quite well. There are not really any disputes over the top four teams. We have the ACC and unbeaten champion Clemson Tigers, the once beaten and Big 12 Champion Oklahoma Sooners, the once beaten SEC Champion Alabama Crimson Tide and the once beaten Big 10 Champion Michigan State Spartans.
Teams who have one thing on common with these teams are the PAC 12 Champion Stanford Cardinal, but they have lost twice. There are the once beaten Ohio State Buckeyes and Iowa Hawkeyes, but they are not a conference champ, the one loss Houston Cougars, who are a conference champion, but not a “Power Five” champ. There really is nobody out there who has a beef other than these four.
So who do we like? Assuming the Tigers will match up with the Sooners and the Spartans will meet Alabama, we like the Sooners and the Spartans. Why? Oklahoma has been awesome ever since the embarrassing loss to Texas. They have faced some tough teams down the stretch in Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State, two of them on the road, and beat them all. Clemson is great, but we like the Sooners.
Michigan State just seems to have that knack for pulling games out in the end. The Michigan game, the Ohio State game and the Iowa game were also down to the end, and the Spartans got them all. Any one of those would have had a great shot at being in the playoffs themselves had Sparty not won.
So we have Oklahoma and Michigan State in the Championship game and we like Michigan State to win, giving the Big Ten back to back National Championships.
Should these two meet in the semifinals, then we will go with Clemson over Alabama in the other anf of course, the Spartans to beet Clemson.
