The Philadelphia Eagles have to be excited about their future. Carson Wentz, the quarterback the team traded up for the number two pick in the draft to get, looks like a future star after his first two starts. The Eagles are 2-0 after beating the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football 29-14. With a rookie who was playing in a place called the Fargo Dome this time last season calling the signals, Wentz was not overwhelmed by his surroundings. He looks a lot like a seasoned pro out there, audibling out of bad plays, going to second and third options and delivering strikes.
The Eagles seem to have won the quarterback sweepstakes of last year’s draft, even though Dak Prescott has also looked very good for division rival Dallas and we still haven’t seen Jared Goff or Paxton Lynch play yet. The fact that Goff hasn’t played for a team who is 32nd in the NFL in scoring speaks volumes. And Lynch looks like he may not get into the Denver lineup anytime soon as Trevor Siemian has done a good job getting the Broncos off to a 2-0 start.
Yes, we are only two weeks into his rookie season and yes, the Browns and Bears are not the best teams in the league, but if you are a Philly fan, this start has to get you excited. Wentz is 43 of 71 for three touchdowns and no interceptions. A rookie straight out if FCS football who has played two games and has yet to throw a pick? That is impressive. Perhaps the biggest reason to be excited for Eagles fans is that they liked this guy enough to ship Sam Bradford off to the Vikings just before the season opener. What did Bradford do? He just went out and beat the Green Bay Packers, that’s all.
The Eagles will be a team to be reckoned with this season, but just wait until this guy has some experience! Fly Eagles Fly indeed!
