Gators Baseball Machine Rolls On; Win 16th Straight

The Florida Gators baseball team was the preseason #1 ranked team. 22 games into the season, they have done nothing to disappoint. They have held the #1 spot every week since the season began, and why not? They have a record of 22-1, have won 16 in a row, and appear to have no holes.

Florida has beaten top ten Miami two of three on the road, beaten ranked Florida State 6-0, beaten ranked Florida Atlantic 2-1 and have started the SEC schedule with a three game sweep of Missouri. The starting pitching rotation of Logan Shore (Friday nights), A. J. Puk (Saturday nights) and Alex Faedo, (Sunday games) can shut down an opposing lineup. Last weekend, Shore held Mizzou to two runs, Puk had them shutout and Faedo made it into the sixth with a 6-1 lead.

Faedo had a perfect game in his prior start against Harvard with one out in the seventh inning. Puk had ten strikeouts in the Mizzou game and oh by the way, the Gators Tuesday night starter, Dane Dunning, shout FSU out and then combined with five other Gator pitchers to beat eh 19th ranked Owls 2-1. Shore also started two straight Friday night shutouts vs Miami and Dartmouth.

The bullpen is full of great young arms such as Jackson Kowar, Kirby Snead, Shaun Anderson, Brady Singer and frank Rubio. All can shut down a lineup.

The Gators batting order is also loaded. Buddy Reed is at the top of the order with blinding speed. The middle of the order includes sluggers J. J. Schwarz and Peter Alonzo, who can take you deep at any time, and also clutch guys like Mike Rivera, Jeremy Vasquez and good looking freshmen such as Jonathan India, Nelson Maldonado and Deacon Liput who have all come through with big hits to help win games.

Will the Gators keep winning at this pace? No. That would be impossible. With the extremely tough SEC schedule the next nine weekends, there will be some losses in there. But this team looks like they could go 20-10 in SEC play. That would surely land Florida a national seed, which means home field for the NCAA Tournament Regionals and Super Regionals. That would be huge for a team that is currently undefeated at home.
