Leicester City is learning what the top clubs in England such as Manchester United have already known for years. It’s tough at the top of the heap. One reason for this is, when you are at the top of the Premier League, you have more games to play. The Premier League starts next weekend, but already Leicester City has had the International Champions Cup where they played teams such as Barcelona and the F. A. Community Shield match at Wembley Stadium against Manchester United.
Leicester lost to PSG 4-0 and then Barca 4-2 after beating Celtic on penalty kicks in the International Champions Cup. On Sunday, they lost the F. AA. Community Shied to Man U 2-1. Last year in the EPL, they lost only three times in 38 matches all year. They’ve now lost three times since July 31.
For Man U. The Jose Mourinho era is off to a good beginning. They have now won the Community Shield for the 21st time, the most of any club. They broke a 1-1 tie late in the match on a header from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 83rd minute that slipped just past the goalkeeper and agonizingly rolled just inside of the right post for the 2-1 win.
Zlatan scored 113 goals for PSG in 122 games and will certainly make Man U one of the title contenders for this season. Teamed with Wayne Rooney, and rising young star Anthony Martial along with Juan Mata and David De Gea, this team should be markedly improved over the last three years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. With new Manager Jose Mourinho, a championship winning manager just two seasons ago, steering the ship, look for Man U to be near the top all year long.
Winning the F. A. Community Shield over the defending champions is a warning shot to the rest of the league that they better have enjoyed these last three years, because the Red Devils are back now.
They will open their Premier League season on the 14th against Bournemouth
