It’s March again sports fans. That means Major League Baseball is in Spring Training and College Baseball is getting started. It means the NBA teams are positioning themselves for a playoff run as are the NHL teams. But March really only means one thing when it comes to sports. That is March Madness.
If you are a fan of sports, sports bars, ditching work and heart-stopping excitement, then they are no better days than tournament watching days. This week, we have the various conference tournaments, which might be even better than the NCAA and NIT Tournaments. Conference rivals, four games per day, evenly matched teams, how can you top it?
I have personally attended both the NCAA Tournament and the SEC Tournament and I have to tell you, that is a whole lot of fun. You have fans of all the teams all together in one place. It’s almost like being at a NASCAR race. So many fans of so many teams means everyone is outnumbered, so everyone is there to have a good time.
Of course, if you can’t attend a tournament in person, there is nothing better than taking an entire afternoon off and visiting a sports bar to eat wings, drink beer and watch as many games as you can concentrate on. The Thursday and Friday of the NCAA Tournament Round of 64 is Christmas for sports fans. It starts at lunchtime and goes all the way to midnight and picks up again the following day at lunchtime again. If there is a better day (or two) on the annual sports calendar, show it to me.
Opening Day of baseball season is great. The first weekend of college football is awesome. The first Sunday of NFL? Love it. But there is no better two-day binge-watching event than the Round of 64. That is unless it is the week prior with all of the conference tournament action.
Make sure you have your fat pants ready!
