The NFL is in preseason week number three. What does that mean to the fans? It means we will see the first team a lot this week. Why is that? It’s because in Week Four we won’t see them at all. So Week Three is where these guys get ready for the season opener. They will be resting up next week and teams won’t want to risk an injury to them before the opener, plus they have to make their final cuts to the rosters. So next week will be all about the backups.
So what will we get to watch this week? We get to see the quarterback competitions unfold in Denver and in San Francisco. Who we see under center two weeks form now for those two teams will have a lot to do with the games this weekend. The Broncos host the on Sunday night. That will be a good game to watch this weekend. Will it be Trevor Siemian or Mark Sanchez? Right now it looks like it is Siemian’s job to lose, but he could still do that with a poor performance against the Rams.
The Niners will get their first look at Colin Kaepernick this preseason when they face the Green Bay Packers on Friday night. He will need to shine to beat out Blaine Gabbert who looks like he has the starting job ad of now. That game will be a good one to watch, plus we get to see Aaron Rodgers for the first half and likely deep into the third quarter. That is always fun to see. We may even see his favorite receiver, Jordy Nelson, back for a few plays in that one too.
On Thursday night we have a good one between the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys. These two are playoff contenders and we will get to see the first stringers for most of the game, except for Dez Bryant who is out with a concussion suffered in practice this week. But we’ll see Tony Romo and then maybe get a quarter of Dak Prescott, his rookie backup who is impressing people all over the NFL with his preseason.
And how about Friday night’s game between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers? Will we see Tom Brady or Jimmy Garapolo? The Pats will be going with Jimmy for the first four weeks while Brady sits out due to his suspension. But if Brady doesn’t play much this week he won’t see action for six weeks, so they may have to start him and play him for a half. We get to see Cam Newton go up against the Pats defense too, so that will be exciting.
So no, the games do not cont this weekend, but if there is a week to pay attention in the preseason, it is this one.
