Week nine of the NFL featured a couple of really great defensive games and one amazing shootout. The Ravens pulled out a thrilling fourth quarter comeback, in what was a defensive struggle, to once again beat the Steelers in their own house. It was déjà vu in Foxboro as Manning once again led the Giants past the Patriots late in the fourth quarter. The Colts keep their winless record going by losing to the Falcons. The Packers keep their undefeated streak alive in a shootout with the Chargers, finishing with a combined score of 83 points. The Rams remain winless on the road as they fall to the Cardinals in a low scoring affair. Many awesome games; many awesome plays; many outstanding performances; but four players separated them selves from the rest, earning a nomination for BadaSSitude player of the week.
First we nominate Vincent Jackson #83, wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers. Jackson put up awesome numbers in this game, after having a couple of bad outings. He torched the Packers defense for 141 yards and three touchdowns on seven catches. Usually when Jackson posts those types of numbers, the Charges win the game. Not so this weak, as the Packers were one touchdown better. Jackson is Rivers’ top target, so look for him to continue to have big games this season, especially if Rivers gets back on track.
The second player we nominate is Willis McGahee #23, running back of the Denver Broncos. McGahee looked real good against a supposedly tough Raider defense. He tore up the Raider defense for 163 yards and two touch downs on 20 carries. McGahee helped to lead the Broncos to an upset win over the Raiders, which is a win they badly needed. The Broncos are 3-5, but are only one game out of first place in their division. If McGahee continues to produce like this, the Broncos could very well win the AFC West, which sounds crazy.
The third player we nominate is Aaron Rodgers #12, quarterback of the undefeated Green Bay Packers. In a high scoring game, Rodgers proved once again why he is the best player in the NFL, completing 21 of 26 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns. Rodgers nearly had as many touchdowns as incomplete passes. I think this is the third time Rodgers has earned the BadaSSitude nomination, showing just how great he is. So far he has completed over 72% of his passes, which is incredible. He will easily win the MVP this year, and could lead the Packers to a perfect 19-0 season.
The forth player we nominate is Julio Jones #11, wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons. Jones only caught three passes against the Colts. However, he turned those three catches into 131 yards and two touchdowns. This really is an amazing performance. Jones averaged nearly 44 yards a catch and scored 2/3 of the times he touched the ball. Jones is already a fantastic receiver in his first year. Look for him to have more big games, giving Ryan another valuable target to throw to.
