Week four of the NFL featured many close games, a few blowouts, and several fourth quarter comebacks. The Indianapolis Colts gave the Tampa Buccaneers all they could handle, but still fell short of their first win. The Detroit Lions avoided their first loss with a last minute touchdown, winning 34-30 over the Dallas Cowboys. The Cincinnati Bengals handed the Buffalo Bills their first loss with a field goal in the final seconds, winning 23 to 20. The Philadelphia Eagles, a team many thought would go deep into the playoffs, lost yet another game this week against the San Francisco 49ers, falling to 1 and 3. Many players had big games this week, but four players emerged from the rest and earned our nomination for the BadaSSitude Pro Football Player of the Week. One quarterback, one wide receiver, and two running backs earned this prestigious honor.
We nominate Pierre Garcon #85, a wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts. Garcon only had two receptions, which isn’t very impressive. However, he turned those two receptions into one hundred and forty six yards scoring two touchdowns. That translates into seventy three yards per catch and a touchdown each time he touched the ball. The Colts are leaving it all on the field in spite of losing Peyton Manning for the year. If Curtis Painter continues to develop, Garcon could be a big part of the offense. However, that is a big if, since Painter has some huge shoes to fill.
The second player nominated is Aaron Rodgers #12, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers not only decimated the Denver Bronco defense through the air, throwing for 408 yards and four touchdowns, he also tore a hole through the Bronco defense on the ground, running for 36 yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers is the first player in the NFL history to throw for over 400 yards, four touchdowns, and two touchdowns on the ground. Rodgers seems to improve each week, making him the best quarterback in the NFL, even better than Tom Brady. The Packers are undefeated so far this season, and could run the table with as many weapons Rodgers has to work with. Can you say the next dynasty?
The third player we nominate is Arian Foster #23, running back for the Houston Texans. In Foster’s first game back, he picked up right where he left off from last year, rushing for 155 yards and one touchdown on 30 attempts. What makes this awesome is that he did it against the mighty Steeler defense, which doesn’t surprise me because he was able to carve up a stout Jets defense last year. When healthy, Foster is the most versatile running back, a patient runner who can also catch the ball. Look for Foster to continue to be a workhorse in the Texans’ backfield and finish the season as one of the top running backs.
The fourth nominee is Beanie Wells #26, running back for the Arizona Cardinals. Wells had one of his best games this week carrying the ball 27 times for 138 yards and three touchdowns. Wells was able to pound the New York defense for around five yards per carry. Wells is having a very productive season thus far, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. He has already amassed over 300 rushing yards this season and is on pace to have another thousand yard season.
