Week 14 of this NFL football season did not disappoint. The Chicago v. Denver game, left many slack-jawed. The Giants v. Cowboys game was a thriller. And the lowly Redskins gave the Patriots a little bit of a scare. This week, 2 teams provided all our 4 nominees for the BadaSSitude Pro Football Player of Week 14.
Eli Manning, #10, Quarterback for the New York Giants was enormous as he led the Giants into Dallas having lost four straight. It was a thriller in Dallas. In a game which saw 8 lead changes, Eli willed the New York Giants who were trailing by 12 points with 6 minutes left in the game to a 37-34 win that would leave a bewildered Dallas wondering what hit them. Manning threw for 400 yards completing 22 of 47 pass attempt, with 2 touchdowns and an interceptions. Hello BadaSSitude!
In the 34-27 win Sunday against the Washington Redskins, Rob Gronkowski, #87, Tight End for the New England Patriots also known as “Gronk”, set the single-season record for touchdown receptions by a tight end with his 14th touchdown catch. He later added a 15th! Gronk was a beast, catching 6 passes for 160 yards with 2 touchdowns. He must have been the most fascinating player to watch this week. Gronk would not go down. Gronk carried, one, two three defenders hanging on to his back. He left defenders strewn in his path. All we saw was BadaSSitude.
Hakeem Nicks, #88, Wide Receiver for the New York Giants, burned the Dallas Cowboys with 7 catches for 154 yards on the way to becoming the second wide receiver for the New York Giants with 1000 yards this season. Although he did not catch a touch down pass, it was clear that whenever the Giants needed to keep a drive alive, they went, again and again to Hakeem Nicks who delivered without fail, including a 64 yard catch that was the 3 longest for the Giants this season. The Giants won the game 37-34 on the strength very much of Hakeem Nicks’s big BadaSSitude hands.
Tom Brady, #12, Quarterback for the New England Patriots is a perennial BadaSS. Against the Washington Redskins this week that New England won 34-27, Brady completed 22 passes on 37 attempts, for a total of 357 yards and 3 touchdowns. Brady also threw 1 interception which resulted in the most delicious moment of the afternoon, as he got into a shouting match match with his coach, and you didn’t have to be a lip reader to notice the “f*** you” and “f*** you too” back and forth between player and coach. If that does not seal a BadaSSitude nomination for a player having a very good afternoon, I don’t know what will.
